Taiwan’s Foxconn to deliver 10,000 electric cars in 2024 | Taiwan News
TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Foxconn Chair Young Liu (劉揚偉) said the company plans to deliver more than 10,000 electric SUVs this year.
Foxconn is producing electric cars through a joint venture with Yulon Motors, with the current marketing focus on the Model C SUV. Addressing a shareholder meeting on Friday (May 31), Liu said the crossover electric vehicle, Model B, will be mass-produced and promoted overseas.
Regarding passenger vehicles, Liu said the company expects more than 9,000 orders from Taiwanese customers, with full-year sales topping 10,000 units. Additionally, Foxconn said 1,555 units of the LUXGEN brand n7 electric vehicle, jointly developed with Yulon, have been delivered in the first four months of this year.
Regarding future electric vehicles, Liu said the Model D multi-purpose passenger vehicle (MPV) prototype is planned and will be displayed in October.
Foxconn is also entering the commercial vehicle segment with the production of electric buses. Liu said a joint venture with Yulon broke ground on a factory in Kaohsiung’s Qiaotou Science Park in mid-April, with the facility expected to be completed in 2025.
Initial production capacity is set at 500 electric buses per year, with production expected to reach 1,000 electric buses in 2028, per CNA.
As for business strategy, Liu said the company will utilize an open electric vehicle production platform and share this technology with partners to reduce development costs and achieve economies of scale. Liu said Foxconn hopes to play an important role in contract design manufacturing services (CDMS) and supply chain management.
