Tesla mobile app tops J.D. Power’s OEM App Report

Cars today are increasingly becoming more and more connected, with J.D. Power stating that about 90% of all EV owners use mobile apps for their vehicles today. With this in mind, the quality of a vehicle’s mobile app could significantly affect an electric car’s ownership experience. This is where the J.D. Power 2024 U.S. OEM EV App Report comes into the picture.

In a press release, Jason Norton, director of benchmark consulting at J.D. Power, noted that electric vehicle mobile apps have been improving year over year. Studies like the J.D. Power 2024 U.S. OEM EV App Report could then provide an overview of sorts about the current state of EV mobile apps to see which companies are providing users with the optimal experience with their electric vehicles.

“The overall experience and performance of electric vehicle mobile apps has improved year over year, as manufacturers continue to identify areas of opportunity, including feature contenting, usability and overall connectivity. However, a continued focus on the specific needs of EV owners is needed to further improve the user experience and trust,” Norton noted.

As per the results of J.D. Power 2024 U.S. OEM EV App Report, Tesla’s mobile app earned the highest overall score of 847 points. This resulted in the Tesla App being the best overall EV app and best Premium Brand App in J.D. Power’s survey. Such results are not that surprising considering that Tesla has been developing its cars’ mobile app since the early days of its first vehicles like the Model S and Model X.

Mercedes-Benz’s Mercedes me connect was in overall second place with 843 points and BMW’s My BMW app was in overall third place with 834 points. Hyundai’s MyHyundai with Bluelink topped the study’s Mass Market Brand App rankings with an overall score of 835 points.

The J.D. Power 2024 U.S. OEM EV App Report included mobile apps from the top 25 award-eligible automakers that sell electric vehicles in the United States, 10 profiled EV brands in China, and 9 EV makers in Europe.
