This university tackles Bihar’s unemployment by promoting entrepreneurship

The resurgence of Bihar as an education hub is gaining momentum once more. The students from the private universities of India are now working in reputed positions and these institutions are being equated to historical educational hubs like Nalanda University and Vikramshila University.

In its history, Bihar has been home to prestigious institutions such as Science College and BN College; however, the quality of higher education has dwindled over time due to various reasons. But fortunes have taken a turn swiftly in recent years, with many private universities stepping up to deliver a standard of education that places Bihar on the global map.

Among the examples worth mentioning, Gopal Narayan Singh University (GNSU) based in Sasaram is one. Graduates from GNSU are holding high positions in multinational companies like Amazon, Flipkart and HDFC Bank. According to Snigdha Tripathi, a Process Associate at Amazon, in conversation with India Today, : “GNS University broadens your horizons and enhances every experience here; you will always find support in advancing your career path.”

Shubham Kumar, a Deputy Manager at HDFC Bank, is also an alumnus of GNSU. In fields ranging from Medical to Para-Medical, Nursing to Pharmacy, Agricultural Science to Law or Journalism and Mass Communication to Information Technology or Commerce — even Library Science or Management — GNSU offers world-class education. The university has tied up with global institutions to bring cutting-edge research facilities within Bihar as per numerous MoUs signed by them.

Trivikram Narayan Singh, the MD of Gopal Narayan Singh University, opines: “Bihar was once a global educational hub. People from distant lands journeyed to learn at Nalanda University and Vikramshila University. Education was synonymous with Bihar. Even now, students from Bihar shine in all spheres but sadly they are frequently compelled to migrate to metropolitan cities such as Delhi and Mumbai for their studies. Our goal has forever been to bring top-notch education right here in Bihar; the university pledges its commitment towards achieving this goal.”

The university is also trying to solve Bihar’s unemployment issue through the promotion of entrepreneurial ventures. To support startups, GNSU has set up an incubation centre in which startups can receive training, advice, and resources that they need to transform into large enterprises.

University Secretary Govind Narayan Singh elaborates, “Sasaram being the rice bowl of Bihar that has large scale agricultural activities. When modern technologies like the Internet of Things are incorporated into the field of agriculture, the whole setting changes. This will strengthen local business and help farmers. There are also huge potentialities in such segments as waste management, historical tourism, and health care. He added that they are coming up with new business models in cooperation with the students.
