Tompkins County launches cybersecurity pilot program
ITHACA, N.Y. (WHCU) – Tompkins County has launched a new cybersecurity pilot program in collaboration with the state.
The Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) program went live on Friday, making Tompkins just the second county in New York to implement the initiative. The program is being conducted with the NYS Office of Information Technology Services (NYS ITS), the Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services (DHSES), and the New York State Operations Center (NYSOC). It allows real-time analysis of security alerts, allowing proactive detection and response to potential threats.
“This pilot program is a testament to New York State’s dedication to establishing a robust statewide cybersecurity framework,” said Director of Tompkins County Information Technology Loren Cottrell. “Our collaboration with NYS ITS, DHSES, and NYSOC will not only help safeguard our county’s digital infrastructure but also serve as a model for other counties to strengthen their cyber resilience.”
Tompkins County was selected due to its stance on cybersecurity and strong working relationships with state agencies.
In related news, the county was awarded federal funding late last month to increase cybersecurity.
