Toyota Indiana invests $1.4 billion in electric vehicle assembly
HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) – Toyota Indiana is bringing a new battery electric SUV to their Princeton, Indiana assembly lines, along with the construction of a new battery pack assembly plant on their Gibson County campus. The $1.4 billion investment will also bring up to 340 new jobs to the Princeton facility. Officials say a majority of those new workers will be placed in the new battery pack assembly plant.
“The new construction will be for the battery pack assembly area, so we will build a new building for that,” says Toyota Indiana President Tim Hollander. “That’s where a majority of the new 340 team members will go. But the BEV product itself will go in line at our east plant.”
Hollander says specifics of the three-row battery electric vehicle are not known at this time, however he did confirm it would be added to existing assembly lines at Toyota Indiana and would be a Toyota-branded vehicle. An estimated cost for the vehicle is also not known.
“Toyota continues to have a lot of confidence in our area, in our region and in our workforce,” says Princeton Mayor Greg Wright. “Currently, we have one of the lowest unemployment rates in the state, in our county, and that goes to show that we have a good working class folk.”
Hollander also says having this electric production opens options for customers to choose between fuel cell vehicles or electric vehicles. Details are still being discussed, but Hollander expects the vehicle to take to market in late 2026.
