‘Turf Tank’ robotic system joins Poplar Bluff Parks and Recreation Department – KBSI Fox 23 Cape Girardeau News

POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. (KBSI)-Have you ever went to a game and saw a little robot painting a field before a sporting event? Now you might. Lanney Corcimiglia is the Director of the Poplar Bluff Parks and Recreations Department, and he says that Turf Tank is a game changer.

“It’s actually very efficient whenever it comes to marking athletic fields.”

The turf tank is a robotics system that’s controlled through a GPS system and a tablet. The robot follows the GPS coordinates that’s been entered into a tablet and paints fresh new lines on a field before a sporting event. Corcimiglia says the robotics system is a huge asset to employees of the parks and rec department.

“Were putting 4 fields here as far as painting them out it would probably take every bit of a day or two if not more by the time you get your string together, get your tap measures together and then it takes two people obviously instead of one just because you’re running your string and doing the walk around.”

According to Lanney what was once a two-day two-person job now is done in one hour with the new robotics system.

Allowing the department to work more efficiently.

“Weve got a small crew hear so anything you can do robotically or remotely is just helping you in the long run.”
