UMass Law’s Erica Sylvia was invited to participate on a panel hosted by the Sturgis Library entitled: AI & You. The discussion focused on generative artificial intelligence and the different ways it impacts the ways we, as a society, live and work.

Sylvia was joined by other tech optimists: Brian Bergstein, Deputy Managing Editor of The Boston Globe’s Ideas Section, and Ben Pring, futurist and author with extensive experience on cutting-edge issues of business and technology.  Presenters discussed their experiences with AI and the disruptions, both positive and negative, such technology has caused in their fields of work.  The panel was moderated by Sturgis Libarian and UMass Dartmouth alumna, Gabrielle Faria-Kalkanis (’14).

The discussion was followed by a spirited Q&A session, and touched on topics such as: how users can identify AI; the current regulatory schematic (or lack thereof); whether users should trust AI; and recommended best practices for safe and ethical uses of such technology. The program was made possible by the MidCape Cultural Council.
