US CFTC Appoints First Chief Artificial Intelligence Officer, Schedules AI Day
The Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) has scheduled an “AI Day” for today (May 2, 2024).
In advance of this gathering, the CFTC has appointed its first Chief Artificial Intelligence Officer. CFTC Chairman Rostin Behnam has selected Dr. Ted Kaouk for the new role. Currently, Dr. Kaouk serves as the CFTC’s Chief Data Officer and Director of the Division of Data.
In this new position, Dr. Kaouk will be responsible for leading the development of the CFTC’s enterprise data and artificial intelligence strategy to further integrate CFTC’s ongoing efforts to advance its data-driven capabilities.
Behnam said that AI is one of his top priorities, as data analytics and artificial intelligence have the potential to transform the CFTC’s capabilities for oversight, surveillance, and enforcement in the derivatives markets.
AI Day will take place at the CFTC’s Washington, D.C. headquarters from 1:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. ET. The meeting will be part of the TAC or Technology Advisory Committee’s meeting.
The meeting is open to the public and will be live-streamed on the CFTC website.
