Utility Processing Hundreds of EV Port Rebates
Atlantic City Electric’s EVsmart Program helps make the transition to an electric vehicle even more affordable via various incentive opportunities first implemented in 2021, with approval from the N.J. Board of Public Utilities.
The program supports customers interested in clean transportation options by providing rebates to help cover the cost of installing EV charging ports at homes, businesses and public spaces – what the company calls “make-ready” support.
“There are so many benefits of electric vehicles, including lower emissions, quieter cars and the potential for big savings on monthly fuel costs,” the utility explains.
According to Candice Womer, senior communications specialist, “Atlantic City Electric currently has approximately 700 applications for the company’s EVsmart Program that have either been completed or are being processed.”
The program includes, for example, incentives to cover a portion of the installation costs for 1,100 privately owned/operated Smart Level 2 and direct current fast charging (DCFC) ports in locations available to the public 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Incentives are 50%, up to $4,500 per port, for Level 2 and 90%, up to $60,000 per port, for DCFC.
There is also a 50% rebate, up to $1,000, to cover the installation of Smart L2 EV charging equipment in a home; a 75% rebate, up to $5,000 per port, to cover a portion of installation costs for 200 Smart L2 EV charging ports in multifamily buildings; and, if in an under-resourced community, the program offers 100%, up to $6,700 per port.
Meanwhile, a 50% rebate is available to cover a portion of installation costs for 450 Smart L2 EV charging ports for employee parking lots and company vehicle fleets at businesses across South Jersey – up to $2,500 per port for fleet and up to $4,500 per port for workplace charging.
And, the program currently supports 16 different charging network providers, with more being added.
Rebate programs will continue until Dec. 31, 2026, or until program funds are fully exhausted. All programs are still accepting applications and interested customers can apply at atlanticcityelectric.com/evsmart. —J.K.-H.
