Who was eliminated in ‘A Planes, Trains and Automobiles Day’? [LIVE BLOG] – GoldDerby

Tonight on “The Amazing Race,” for the first time in history, teams visit the country of Slovenia. Racers will soar to new heights in glider planes, experience roadblock surprises and battle to remain in the race, on this episode titled “A Planes, Trains and Automobiles Day” airing Wednesday, November 15 (9:30-11:00 PM, ET/PT) on CBS. Phil Keoghan hosts.

CBS promised “the biggest season yet,” with 13 teams competing for the first time ever. We also see the return of commercial travel, no non-elimination legs, the express pass and a twist on the infamous U-Turn! Here are the teams still in contention: Steve & Anna Leigh (father/daughter), Morgan & Lena (sisters), Ashlie & Todd (married), Robbin & Chelsea (childhood friends), Greg & John (brothers), Rob & Corey (father/son) and Joel & Garrett (best friends). 9:30 p.m. — Previously, on “The Amazing Race”! In episode 7, relationships were tested as teams took on their first self-drive leg in Germany. Following the Roadblock and Detour, brothers Greg & John held on to first place while best friends Malaina & Andrea were sent packing after failing to complete the leg.

9:35 p.m. — As the winners of the last leg of the race, Greg & John are first to head out on this leg. Teams will be traveling more than 600 miles from Cologne, Germany to Ljubljana, Slovenia. When Greg & John reach the travel agent they hop on a 4 p.m. flight with just two seats left, meaning they should have a good lead on everyone else. The second flight leaves over three hours later at 7:30 p.m.

9:45 p.m. — The teams arrive at the airport and retrieve their tickets. Ashlie & Todd and Rob & Corey luck out and get on the early flight with standby tickets, so three teams are out front. Once arriving in Slovenia they must hop on a train. The three teams in the lead take an early train, but miss a five-minute layover. They head back, losing a potential eight-hour advantage and all seven teams will be on an equal playing field.

10:00 p.m. — All teams reach the clue box together and the race is on! They pick up a car and drive to an air field. Tensions always run high with self-navigation and Steve & Anna Leigh are at each others’ throats. Joel & Garrett arrive first at the Road Block. One racer on each team will soar through the sky in “Who Wants a Birds-Eye View?” looking for a clue with four numbers. Then they must arrange the numbers to represent the year Slovenia gained independence. Garrett gets the numbers, but has no idea that Slovenia is a new country. He guesses it gained its independence in 1199 (its’a actually 1991). He has to go through the whole flight all over again even though he knows the numbers, he can’t just keep guessing. Wow! If he thinks Slovenia is that old he could be on track for a few more flights. Rob is the second on the ground and correctly guesses 1991 — confessing he’s a history nerd. Rob & Corey take off in first place.

10:15 p.m. — Ashlie is correct on her first attempt so she and Todd take off in second place. John is correct as well, putting the brothers in third. Robbin nails her answer, putting her and Chelsea in fourth place. Meanwhile, Steve & Anna Leigh are still navigating their way to the air field and Anna Leigh couldn’t be more of a downer. “There’s no way we can come back from this,” she utters while having no clue what lies ahead. Later, Todd & Ashlie take over first place en route to the next clue box and come across the option to compete for an Express Pass. To win the pass they have to climb to the top of a ski jump hill. Todd & Ashlie are going to go for it. Unfortunately they start running the wrong direction.

10:25 p.m. — After one failed attempt, Lena finishes the Roadblock in 6th place, leaving Steve & Anna Leigh behind. Anna Leigh sits on the ground crying as her dad flies the clear blue skies. Meanwhile, Rob & Corey reach the next clue box. They don’t see Todd & Ashlie so they decide to go for the Express Pass. Eventually Todd & Ashlie see Rob & Corey and decide they can run them down, so they chase them up the hill. Next to reach the clue box are Greg & John and Robbin & Chelsea. Ashlie decides to bail on the Express Pass so they run back down the hill. Greg & John are confident in their athletic abilities and decide to see if they can run down Rob & Corey, who are already halfway up the hill. Ashlie & Todd move on to the next task, moving them back in to first place.

10:35 p.m. — The next Route Info task is a “Cross-Country Ski.” Teams must ski to the top of a structure before choosing a Detour. Back at the Express Pass race, Corey is really struggling. Greg & John don’t realize there’s a whole other flight of stairs beyond what they can see, so they bail and head back down the hill, letting Rob & Corey have it. Rob says he knows if Greg & John had just continued chasing after them they would have eventually been passed. It’s a stroke of luck for the father/son duo and a waste of time for the brothers. Still, their athletic abilities pay off and they pass by everyone on their cross-country skis. They open the Detour clue, which gives them two options for their next task. In “Field Work,” teams will collect, fluff and place freshly plowed hay on a rack. In “House Work,” teams will assemble a home for a family of bees. Greg & John head to the bees, then decide to switch to hay. Robbin & Chelsea are in second place, opting for hay. Meanwhile, Rob & Corey have finally completed the Express Pass task and now have an advantage in the race.

10:45 p.m. — After completing the Route Info task about five minutes after the teams ahead of them, Steve & Anna Leigh make an awful decision. They go for the Express Pass, running right by a sign that clearly states it has already been taken. Why would they still think this is an option after arriving in last place? Clearly being in last place has gotten in their heads, but they’re not far behind! This is painful to watch. Meanwhile, Todd & Ashlie are first to finish the Detour and will head to the Neboticknik Skyscraper to find their next clue. Rob & Corey finish next and the race is on for first place. In the back of the pack, Steve & Anna Leigh finally reach the top of the Express Pass just to realize it’s been taken. At least they enjoyed the zip line back down the hill.

11:00 p.m. — Steve & Anna Leigh reach the Detour while Joel & Garrett are still working on their bee house. I think the reality sets in that they weren’t as far behind as they thought. That race for the Express Pass was really a killer. That being said, with self-navigation, anything can happen. Steve & Anna Leigh finish the Route Info task and they’re on the heels of other teams as everyone searches for a skyscraper holding their next clue. Todd & Ashlie arrive first and the clue sends them to Dragon Bridge, the Pit Stop for this leg of the race. At this point it’s a foot race. Greg & John plan to follow Todd & Ashlie and then pass them at the end. The plan works and Greg & John finish this leg in first place, winning a trip for two to Namibia. The full order of finishers is below. By some miracle, Steve & Anna Leigh pass Morgan & Lena by finding the skyscraper first. After retrieving their clue, they take the elevator back down while Morgan & Lena take the stairs. Steve & Anna Leigh reach the Pit Stop and avoid what was almost certain elimination. Morgan & Lena arrive seconds later and are sent packing.

Leg 8 results:

1. Greg & John
2. Ashlie & Todd
3. Rob & Corey
4. Joel & Garrett
5. Rob & Chelsea
6. Steve & Anna Leigh
7. Morgan & Lena (eliminated)
