Workshop to address human exposure to electromagnetic fields
Muscat – Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA), in collaboration with International Telecommunication Union, will organise a regional workshop titled ‘Electromagnetic Field Compatibility: Balancing Tower Connections, Safety and Site Selection in the Arab Region’.
The event will take place at Grand Millennium Hotel from May 13 to 16.
According to a TRA official, the workshop aims to address concerns regarding human exposure to electromagnetic fields (EMF) by enhancing awareness levels, reinforcing international standards and showcasing national efforts in Arab countries. It will feature a meeting of a regional group for the Arab region on telecommunications measurement.
Additionally, the workshop seeks to raise awareness on human exposure to EMF in alignment with international recommendations and standards. It will delve into the regulatory and legal prerequisites for establishing telecommunications towers, exploring associated challenges, difficulties and proposed solutions. It will also elucidate the impact of urban planning on telecommunications infrastructure, including the placement of telecommunications towers.
The workshop will spotlight national initiatives in Arab countries and introduce awareness campaigns aimed at proposing practical approaches for measuring EMF. Notably, the event is tailored to a diverse audience comprising telecommunications regulators, ICT policy makers, health and safety experts, and authorities vested in EMF matters.
