Young Entrepreneurs Jump Into The Food Biz At Deer Park Intermediate
DEER PARK, NY — Students at Deer Park’s John F. Kennedy Intermediate School are proving it’s never too early to be an entrepreneur.
Students in Heather Buksa’s and Jennifer Zylberberg’s classes recently started a Falcon Food Cart, a mini mart on wheels serving up pre-ordered items to sell to staff members in the building and named after the school’s mascot.
According to the teachers, the mobile snack bar helps the students build communication skills and functional math skills.
“The students are learning skills that are taught in the classroom and carrying it over for authentic experiences,” Buksa said.
Zylberberg created labels and communication prompts for students to be used to interact with their customers. Profits earned from the Falcon Food Cart will help support social and community gatherings for the classes.
