Youngkin cannot pull out of CA EV Mandate unilaterally –

Youngkin said in a statement that the idea that the government should tell people what kind of car they can buy is “fundamentally wrong.” However, he offered another argument during a recent CNN interview.

“And, in fact, we are now able to choose to be subject to the federal mandates,” he says.

“I’m glad he is acknowledging that federal law would still apply,” says Pollard.

Pollard says 16 other states adhere to the California mandate, while Youngkin says Virginia will join 37 other states that adhere to federal guidelines on emissions.

“This is not a condemnation of electric vehicles. If you want to buy an electric vehicle, please do, and the fact that we will now be subject to the federal guildelines innovation will have to take hold in order to drive much more stringent fuel economy standards,” says Youngkin.
